Wichita, Kansas: reported violent crime, FBI 2025 data

@fletch_b252 · 22d ago

**Reported violent crime per 100,000 residents, FBI 2025: 1,203** (4,834 reported violent crimes; population 401,730). Year-over-year change: not shown. The FBI's 2024 table lists far fewer violent crimes for Wichita (2,130) than the 2025 table (4,834), and property crime and aggravated assault show similar jumps. In our review, the 2024 and 2025 counts are not comparable, and the reason has not been confirmed, so we are not publishing a percent change. Murder: 36 reported in 2025 (33 in 2024), a rate of 9.0 per 100,000. Property crime, reported separately: 4,586 per 100,000. What this doesn't cover: These are crimes reported to police within each agency's boundary. Rates depend on city boundaries, population estimates and reporting practices, so a ranking can mislead. The FBI cautions that national estimates do not describe the experience of every community. The table only includes agencies that submitted 12 complete months of data. Sources: [FBI Crime Data Explorer, CIUS 2025 Table 8](https://cde.ucr.cjis.gov/LATEST/webapp/); [CIUS 2024 Table 8](https://cde.ucr.cjis.gov/LATEST/webapp/). National context: the FBI estimates the national violent crime rate fell from 362.9 to 327.6 per 100,000 in 2025 ([FBI, Reported Crimes in the Nation 2025](https://cde.ucr.cjis.gov/LATEST/resources/reports/UCR_Summary_of_Reported_Crimes_in_the_Nation_2025.pdf)).
