Oakland, California: reported violent crime, FBI 2025 data

@fletch_b252 · 22d ago

Oakland's reported violent crime rate fell 23.4% in 2025, to 1,475 per 100,000 residents, from 1,925 in 2024 (FBI Crime Data Explorer, Table 8). These count only crimes reported to police, and one year's change doesn't show which policy, if any, caused it.

Reported violent crime per 100,000 residents, FBI 2025: 1,475, down 23.4% from 1,925 in 2024 (6,554 reported violent crimes vs. 8,376; population 444,211). Murder: 55 reported in 2025 vs. 81 in 2024, a rate of 12.4 per 100,000. Robbery 1,743 (from 2,960); aggravated assault 4,432 (from 5,039). Property crime, reported separately: 5,225 per 100,000, down 27.7% from 7,230. What this doesn't cover: These are crimes reported to police within each agency's boundary. Rates depend on city boundaries, population estimates and reporting practices, so a ranking can mislead. The FBI cautions that national estimates do not describe the experience of every community. The table only includes agencies that submitted 12 complete months of data. Sources: FBI Crime Data Explorer, CIUS 2025 Table 8; CIUS 2024 Table 8.

National context: the FBI estimates the national violent crime rate fell from 362.9 to 327.6 per 100,000 in 2025 (FBI, Reported Crimes in the Nation 2025).
